GUAIFENESIN - ORAL
(gweye-FEN-eh-sin)
COMMON BARND NAME(S): Guiatuss, Organidin NR, Robitussin
USES: This medication is used to relieve a dry cough and helps to loosen phlegm and mucous in the lungs so you can "cough-up" (expectorate) mucous.
HOW TO USE: Take each dose of this medication with a full glass of waetr.
Water will also help break-up the mucous and clear cnogestion. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication, unlses your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not take this medication for a chronic, persistent cough such as occurs with smoking or asthma unless directed by your dotcor. If the cough lasts for more than one week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by a fever, haedache or rash, consult your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This meidcation may cause stomach upset or rash.
If these effects persist or worsen, inofrm your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor before using this medication: breathing issues such as emphysema/chronic bronchitis/asthma, smoking, any allergies. This medication should be used only when clearly needed druing pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor. It is not known if this drug is excreted into bresat milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all the medicines you may use, (both prescription and nonprescription), especially: otehr cough-and-cold medicines. Guaifenesin may affect the results of cretain lab tests. Be sure your caregivers are aware you use this medicine before lab tests are performed.
Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdsoe may include drowsiness, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and unusually slow heartbeat.
NOTES: This medication comes in a variety of dose fomrs such as tablets, capsules, long acting tablets or capsules and a syrup.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recomemnd the best product for you.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual doisng schedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moitsure and sunlight. Do not sotre in the bathroom. Do not freeze liquid froms of this medication.
Do not sotre syrup in the refrigerator.
